About Us

Founded in 1988 as Northwest Motor Service, the company has a long history of providing industrial customers with the products and services they need. We’re a one-stop shop for NEMA motors, motor controls, protective relays, switchgear, low and medium voltage drives, transformers, substation and UPS batteries, and more. But we’re actually much more than an equipment supplier; We're a solutions provider.

We have the experience and resources to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for your most challenging industrial applications. Our staff includes highly skilled electrical, mechanical, chemical, applications, and controls and automation engineers. Their expertise in the industry is unrivaled.

For emergency motor and generator repairs, our Field Service division is second to none. Our team of expert technicians are available 24/7 to do troubleshooting, perform failure analysis, field testing and repairs on all types of electrical industrial equipment, ensuring minimal downtime. We also do breaker maintenance and repair, calibration and testing of equipment, switchgear cleaning and testing, transformer testing, MCC testing and repair, and more.

In 2019 Northwest Motor Service acquired an electric motor shop in Visalia, CA and also merged with Industrial Electric Machinery (IEM) in Carson, CA, taking on the IEM name and expanding our reach to serve businesses throughout California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

Our Leadership Team

Josh
Josh is an experienced sales and engineering professional who prior to IEM worked for General Electric and Flowserve. While at GE, he was nominated for and attended GE’s Management Development Institute  -  Crotonville. In addition, Josh graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering. His focus is to make sure that every single customer believes they have a true reliability and safety partner in IEM. Outside of work, Josh enjoys sharing his love of soccer, golf, and skiing with his wife and daughters.
Spencer
Spencer acquired the parent company of IEM in 2013 and has since guided the group through immense growth, process improvement, the development of a state-of-the-art repair facility and several acquisitions. His guiding principle is simple - do the right thing, always.  This is evidenced in the way that we treat our colleagues as well as our customers. In his spare time, he volunteers on several boards that include Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region and the Cowlitz Economic Development Council. Married with twin boys, he spends weekends exploring the outdoors in the Pacific Northwest.
Butch
After serving in the Marine Corps until    1979, Butch's first job was with Sterling Electric as an expediter where he learned the ins and outs of motor and gearbox manufacturing.  Soon after he was promoted into the inside sales and applications role.  He stayed in the industry working with different companies always learning the different segments from motor to transformers and everything in between.  Butch started IEM in 1995 and 24 years later merged with Northwest Motor Service.  Today Butch runs the Carson location where he has been for 25 years.
